40 Midjourney Prompts for Consistent Character Design

Keeping one character looking the same across dozens of images is the hardest part of Midjourney. The fix is not luck: it is a reusable character sheet plus the --cref (character reference) flag. This list gives you 40 copy-paste prompts. First build your sheet, then drop it into any prompt below. The Character Sheet Formula

Before any prompt, write one fixed descriptor for your character and reuse it verbatim. Lock age, hair, eyes, build, outfit, and a defining accessory. Save it as [CHAR] and paste it everywhere.

Then generate a master sheet image once, and reference it with --cref on every later image so the face stays put.

Bonus: Locking Consistency with –cref

The --cref flag tells Midjourney to match the face and clothing of a reference image. Use --cw 100 to weight the whole character (lower it to 0–50 if you only want the face). Always regenerate from the same sheet URL, and keep your [CHAR] text identical. For product and mockup scenes that also need a stable subject, the product mockup prompt uses the same reference logic.

Sources & Notes

Prompts written for Midjourney v7 (current as of 2025), where --cref and --cw are supported. The character-sheet method predates v7 and still works on v6. Aspect ratios use the --ar syntax; adjust per platform. Replace every [CHAR] and [URL] placeholder before generating. Stylized variants may drift more than realistic ones, so re-run with the same seed if identity slips.
